THE APPLICATION OF TEST POWER TO DETERMINATION OF THE TESTS NUMBER IN TRIBOLOGICAL RESEARCH

Abstract
The article proposes a procedure for the determination of the number of test repetitions that enables the evaluation the value of investigated variable with the assumed precision on established the credibility level. As the credibility measure, the significance level and the test power were assumed. The procedure uses the statistical methods concerning the analysis of the tests power. The application of the developed procedure is described to determination the number of the test repetitions in the ball-cratering method in the evaluation of PVD coating resistance to an abrasive wear. In the scope of the research of the resistance to abrasive wear of the antiwear coatings, crater-shaped wear scares have significance. The crater diameters are used for the coefficient determination of the resistance to abrasive wear. The wear tests referred to in this article were conducted in stable conditions of load, velocity and wear with the presence of silicon carbide. In accordance with procedure, each test was repeated five times. The credibility of results where checked and additional tests were conducted as required.
