The behavioural pattern of domestic swine (Sus scrofa f. domestica) and the possibility of its use in breeding and rearing. A review

Journal Title: Journal of Animal Science, Biology and Bioeconomy - Year 2016, Vol 34, Issue 4

Abstract

The aim to this study was to discuss the behaviour of pigs and the possibility of using that knowledge in the husbandry and production practice. Particular attention was paid to the relationship between welfare and behaviour of pigs. As it was shown, an effective way to prevent behavioural problems is to ensure that animals have the materials that absorb their attentions. The use of so-called toys supports the reduction of violence and stress in the group. As shown pigs prefer edible toy having flavor and odor. The ability to read signals, connected with knowledge of their behaviour is a crucial diagnostic tool that allows for the optimal utilization of production capacities of individual technological groups.
