The conception of education in health of the nurse in the care to the infant hospitalized

Abstract
It deals with investigation about the education in health in the childlike care. This study aims to identify conception of education in health that guides the educational praxis of the nurse directed to the family of the hospitalized child. This is a qualitative design of descriptive and exploratory research. The subjects were nine nurses that work in the inpatient unit of a university hospital pediatric located in the town of Rio de Janeiro. The data collection was made by semi-structured interview applied to the subjects form September to November of 2006. The following category emerged from the thematic analysis of the answers: The conception of education in health from the nurses’ point of view. We verify that the conception of education in health still remains rooted in the knowledge transmission model and in the biological model of the health-illness process, in that the know-how of the families, their social reality and the existence of popular praxis were little valued. The recommendations are: to form nurses’ discussion groups in the hospital about education in health and to create educational groups with the hospitalized children families.
