The differences in blood pressure between shoulders in people sick on arterial hypertension and in healthy people
Journal Title: Medycyna Dydaktyka Wychowanie - Year 2010, Vol 42, Issue 2
Abstract
Introduction: Arterial hypertension belongs to diseases associated with the progress of civilization. It refers to more than 20% of adults, in Poland to 30%. A lot of people live with an undiagnosed disease. The risk of death increases along with the growth of arterial tension. The aim of the study: The aim of the work was to analyse the differences in arterial tension values between right and left shoulder in people sick on arterial hypertension. The materials and methods: The measurements of the arterial tension were carried out on 150 people, 50% of which were healthy and the remaining 50% had arterial hypertension (AH) recognized. Arterial tension was taken on both shoulders. The research was conducted in accordance with the procedures of tension measurement. Results were put through statistical analysis. To compare the tests outcomes „Semolin-Whitney U Test” was used. Statistically essential difference was acknowledged at p<0,05. The results: Among the sick, 48% had wrong arterial tension values and among the healthy all values of arterial tension were placed within the set standards. The highest value of systolic pressure in the sick came to 205 mmHg, and of diastolic pressure to 125 mmHg, the lowest came to 85 mmHg for the systolic pressure of arterial blood and 50 mmHg for the diastolic pressure. Conclusions: All researched people, both healthy and sick, gave correct average values of arterial tension, but the values of the arterial tension in AH people were higher than in the control group. The amplitudes of tensions were higher in the group of AH people. The differences in height of systolic pressures and diastolic pressures between the shoulders were higher in people with the hypertension.
