THE DISCOURSE OF THE COMPLEXITY OF THE CONCEPT OF SOCIAL SUPPORT ON THE GROUND OF PRISONS

Abstract

The article analyzes the concept of social support in semantic and conceptual approaches. The object of research – the discourse of the complexity of the concept of social support. The aim of research is to show the characteristics and attributes of social support on the ground of specificity of activities implemented in prisons. The method of research – concept analysis. The article aims at answering the problematic question: What are the concepts of social support ? How to define social support? What are characteristics of social support ? Conclusions. By summarizing it can be stated that social support is formal and informal assistance, which includes social, economic, juridical and organizational measures, this support can be combined interdependently, using financial, social and human resources and the outcome of social support should be successful reintegration of people into society. Governmental and nongovernmental organizations can be providers of social support. Social support could be provided using social networks which include concrete people and organizations. Social support consists of such components as: regularly implemented programmes, preparation and implementation of social assistance plans, rehabilitation of cognitive, social and professional skills, but the most important component of social support – social services and benefits. Communication, which is realized through interaction, is considered initial condition for social support. Social worker’s values, skills and specific roles could be a characteristic of effective and efficient social support.
