The distribution of Trace Elements in the Stream Sediments from the Jijia River Basin
Journal Title: Analele stiintifice ale Universitatii "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" din Iasi - seria Geologie - Year 2011, Vol 57, Issue 1
Abstract
The aim of the present study is to assess the environmental quality in the Jijia Basin by use of stream sediment samples. The study of the distribution of trace elements (Sc, V, Cr, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Rb, Sr, Y, Zr, Nb, Ba, Pb, Th and As) in the stream sediments from the Jijia Basin generally indicated that the environment is either unaffected or slightly affected. Local anomalies determined after defining the background and the threshold values are due to both anthropogenic factors and geogenic factors. A particular case is that of Ni, where over 75% of the data exceed the target value. However, the normal distribution of this element, as well as the high levels of Ni found in some soils from the studied area, suggest that we are dealing with a geogenically-enriched environment. The median values for most of the elements contents are close to those determined for European stream sediments.

The influence of the thrust over the evolution of the thermal regime of the Vrancea Nappe source rocks (Eastern Carpathians). A 1D simulation of the Șipoteni oil structure (Romania)
The aim of the present paper is to highlight the variations in thermal regime caused by the thrusting of the Tarcău Nappe over the Vrancea Nappe during the New Styrian tectono-genesis. The onedimensional analysis was car...
First report of the genus Euciphoceras (Nautiloidea, Mollusca) from the latest Eocene rocks of the North-western Thrace Basin (Bulgaria)
The unique nautiloid specimen recorded so far from the latest Eocene marl bed of Durhana Quarry (DQ), Haskovo County (North-western Thrace Basin, Bulgaria) is described and discussed herein. It represents a phragmocone m...
Preliminary data regarding the tailing pond of Suha Valley – Tarnița, Suceava County (Romania)
The tailings pond of Suha Valley consists of the waste material generated by the now-abandoned ore-processing plant of Tarnița. In terms of mineralogy, primary minerals (quartz, galena, sericite, subordinate barite and s...
Juraphyllites bucovinicus (UHLIG, 1900) – A rare phyloceratid species from the Early Jurassic of the Praşca klippe (Rarău Syncline, Eastern Carpathians, Romania)
In 1900, Uhlig proposed five new species of ammonites and one brachiopod species, Early Jurassic in age, from the Praşca Klippe (Rarău Syncline, Eastern Carpathians). “Rhacophyllites” bucovinicus is the only phyllocerati...
Pre-ocean and post-collision intraplate basalts from Romania: A comparative study
In the present paper, the intraplate pre-ocean Triassic Dobrogean basalts and the post-collision Paleogene Transylvanian basalts have been comparatively studied. Although the two basaltic rock series show the same tecton...
