The Effect of Complexing Agent (TEA) on the Optical Properties and Band Gap Energy of Chemical Bath Deposited CuSe thin films

Abstract

Thin films of CuSe were deposited on glass substrates using chemical bath deposition technique. The effect of the concentration of the complexing agent (TEA) on the optical properties and band gap energy of the deposited films were studied. The study was done based on optical characterization of the deposited films using M501 single beam scanning UV/VIS spectrophotometer. The films exhibited band gap energy values of 2.55eV – 2.95eV. It was observed that as the concentration of TEA increases, the band gap energy and transmittance of the incident radiation increases whereas the value of absorbance decreases. The films exhibited optimum thickness of 0.9674μm at the 4ml concentration of TEA in the bath. The reflectance values were found to be generally low with sample P1 deposited at 2ml of TEA showing the lowest reflectance value
