The Effect of High Intensity Interval Training and Endurance Training on the cAMP Gene Expression and Glycerol in the Heart Tissue of Obese Rats

Journal Title: International Journal of Applied Exercise Physiology - Year 2019, Vol 8, Issue 1

Abstract

Introduction: Cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), transmits intracellular signaling information, resulting in release of free fatty acids. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of twelve weeks of high intensity interval training (HIIT) and endurance training on the cAMP gene expression and glycerol in the heart tissue of obese rats. Methods: In this experimental study, 20 rats were divided into four groups, including: (1) high-fat endurance training, (2) high-fat HIIT, (3) normal diet control, and (4) high-fat control. Group 1 performed endurance training, and group 2 performed HIIT for 12 weeks. Data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA with repeated measures and one-way ANOVA with Tukey's post hoc test. Results: Endurance training and HIIT had a significant effect on the decrease in glycerol levels; also the both had the same effects on reducing the concentration of glycerol in the heart tissue of obese rats. However, endurance training and HIIT had no significant effect on cAMP gene expression in the heart tissue of obese rats. Conclusion: It seems that endurance and interval training with the intensity and duration of the present study protocol reduced the concentration of glycerol in the heart tissue of obese rats. However, they have no significant effect on cAMP gene expression in the heart tissue of obese rats.
