Abstract

Different children’s books that take children’s world into account have begun to emerge together with the liberal education approach adopted in the Children’s literature by the Student movements in the world. And these books have spread all over the world thanks to translations. Upon being translated to other societies and cultures differently, the image of freedom in the original works of children's literature has been reflected differently. Addressing power relations in the field of translation and social and political developments experienced during the process of translation make it possible to clarify the situation. In this study, positive and negative effects of translator decisions in the translation of children’s books called “Ayşegül” on a child's development will be dealt with a scientific point of view also by taking the above mentioned factors into account. Conscious and unconscious decisions made in the translations published by three different publishing houses at different times will be read critically and their effects on society will also be evaluated.
