The Effectiveness of Yoga on the Progress of the First Stage of Labor in the Active Phase of Primigravida

Abstract
The fears, anxiety, and fear both of during pregnancy and delivery or in the face post childbirth are often experienced by primigravida. The increase of maternal psychological burden can cause a variety of complications that can result in the availability and the quality of maternal labor. Yoga can help mothers to overcome anxiety when faced with the birth process. This study aimed to determine the progress of primigravida labor difference between the treated yoga and yoga as well as how much yoga affect the progress of primigravida labor. The study design was pre experiment with a static group comparison approach. The population was primigravida in the ac- tive phase of the first stage from April to November 2016 in BPM Nurul Aini as many as 34 people. Total samples were 17 people doing yoga and 17 people do not do yoga. The statistical test used Wilcoxon Mann - Whitney U - Test (SPSS) and Linear Regression Test. The results of the study showed that labor progress on Active Phase primigravida which given treatment yoga almost half of the normal progress was 6 hours of 8 people (47.1%) and did not give the yoga treatment accelerating progress on the 5 o’clock as many as 1 ( 5.9%). Wilcoxon Mann Whitney U Test Results in SPSS p value <0.05, it indicated that there was difference between the labor progress primigravida treated by yoga exercises and did not treated by yoga exercises. To know how far the effectiveness of yoga exercises on the progress of the first stage of labor in the active phase primigravida, it was per- formed linear regression test and get the value of R2 = 0.383, which meant yoga exercises had an effect by 38.3% against the first stage of labor progress for primiravida active phase. To overcome the anxiety and pain during childbirth, yoga could be disseminated to the public to be done rou- tinely.
