THE EFFECTS OF MIGRATION FROM RURAL TO URBAN ON TO RURAL AREAS: THE EXAMPLE BORABOY VILLAGE (AMASYA-TAŞOVA)

Abstract
In Turkey, it is generally accepted that the migration from the countryside to the city accelerated after 1950. That the population flew into the cities in a time period that can be regarded as short caused science people from different science fields to investigate migrations. In the studies focusing on the results of migrations, the consequences of migration on cities have been mostly concentrated on. Whereas, the present study focuses mostly on the effects of the migrations on the countryside based on the principles of geography. The migration that started for various reasons in Boraboy village, which is the field of study, in the 1950s accelerated after 1985. The village population that exceeded 2500 in the 1975s decreased to 740 according to the data of 2016. The migration in the field did not only affect the amount of the population, but also brought about certain positive and negative changes in the demographic structure, settlement pattern, type of dwellings, the use of agricultural fields, product pattern, type of production, and traditional values and rituals. These changes are examined in the present study and explained by giving theses/determinations as examples.
