Abstract
A retrospective analysis of case histories of 843 patients with ulcerative colitis and 222 — with Crohn’s disease who were treated at the State Institution «Institute of Gastroenterology of National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine» from 2001 to 2011. The data indicate a general trend to increase in the number of patients with inflammatory bowel disease during the last decade. Age and gender features of inflammatory bowel disease in the examined patients had been established. The impact of urbanization and social status on the disease progression has been shown. To determine the amount of appropriate medical care of these patients and the creation of programs for the prevention, early diagnosis, adequate induction and maintenance therapy is necessary to conduct full-scale epidemiological studies in all regions of Ukraine.
