The iconografic theme of Ecce Homo in Titian's work
Journal Title: Brukenthal. Acta Musei - Year 2009, Vol 2, Issue 0
Abstract
The present essay intends to point out the importance of the iconographical value of ”Ecce Homo” in Titian’s works, focusing on the painting dated 1565 in the collection of Brukenthal National Museum. This painting will be compared with the other “Ecce Homo” of Titian’s (for the moment five more representations of Christ alone have been traced). The iconography of this episode has not been much investigated, in spite of its great richness that the Venetian artist had discerned. He explored and interpreted along his whole career this subject, succeeding to offer the viewer its multiple aspects and to express the inside messages which are sources of contemplation and meditation.
