THE IDEOLOGY OF THE «RUSSIAN WORLD» AND THE CONCEPT OF HUMAN RIGHTS IN THE CONTEXT OF THE ORTHODOX TRADITION

Abstract

The article examines the ideological and philosophical origin of the «Russian World» doctrine and its relation to the modern Orthodox view on the concept of human rights. Developed in the context of contemporary Russian socio-political realities, this doctrine absorbed a number of historical ideologies. Taken as the basis of its political program by Patriarch Cyril, the «Russian World» doctrine gradually turned into the main narrative of modern Russian Orthodoxy. It is a neo-imperial, isolationist and predatory ideological construct based on Russian-speaking identity, Orthodoxy and traditionalism. The ideology of the «Russian World» is based on the idea of collective salvation, which is contrary to the Orthodox doctrine and is used by its followers to criticize the concept of human rights. The use of the doctrine under research is criticized in the Orthodox community as incompatible with the tradition.
