The influence of shielded magnetic field on the cell viability and nitrogenase activity of Azotobacter chroococcum.
Journal Title: Extreme Life, Biospeology & Astrobiology - International Journal of the Bioflux Society - Year 2009, Vol 1, Issue 1
Abstract
This paper studies the magnetic field influence on the viability of zotobacter chroococcum 2286T cells. The viability of the Azotobacter chroococcum cells incubated under shielded magnetic field was established according to the nitrogen acumulation rate in the culture medium, related to the control samples incubated in normal lab conditions. The inoculation was made from solid medium, and from liquid medium, at an bacterial density of 1.5∙106. After incubation the NH[sub]4[/sub][sup]+[/sup], NO[sub]2[/sub][sup]-[/sup] and NO[sub]3[/sub][sup]-[/sup] ions concentration in the medium was determined. The total nitrogen quantity was determined through Kjeldahl method. The nitrogenase activity was established by the reduction of C[sub]2[/sub]H[sub]2[/sub] to C[sub]2[/sub]H[sub]4[/sub] and by detecting it using a gas chromatograph.

Influence of physical and chemical factors on the distributional pattern of Cyanobacteria in Kumaon Region
Cyanobacteria are a group of haploid oxygenic photosynthetic blue-green algal prokaryotes. They belong to the largest, most diverse and widely distributed group of Prokaryotes. These belong to the most archaic organisms...
Texture analysis methods for the characterisation of biological and medical images
Adaptations can be extreme in many cases and they help organisms survive in their habitat or ecological niche. These adaptations can affect their anatomy, ethology or physiology. Anatomical adaptations are physical featu...
On the adaptations to cave life of some different animal groups (first note).
In this paper we present the major and common adaptations to the cave environment of different animal groups. The common features are: anophthalmia, depigmentation, apterism in the case of insects, body shape and ecophys...
Methane in outer space: The limit between organic and inorganic
Methane is the principal component of natural gas, the simplest alkane, and among the most abundant organic compounds on our planet; it is also found in outer space in enormous amounts. The extremely abundant and natural...
Plant transporters involved in heavy metal homeostasis
Transition metal ions (predominately manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel, copper and zinc) have an array of catalytic and regulatory roles in the growth and development of all living organisms. However, an excess of these m...
