Journal Title: Аграрна економіка - Year 2018, Vol 11, Issue 1

Abstract

The article analyzes the problem of using of the «Internet of Things» technology in agriculture, particularly, in agriculture of Ukraine. It is emphasized that the role of «Internet of Things» will grow in all spheres of human life. These technologies become particularly important with the growth of the population of the Earth, as that growth will mean an increase in demand for agricultural products. The new generation of agro technologies (the so-called «smart farming») will allow reducing fertilizer costs, improving plants protection and increasing crop yields. Using of the «Internet of Things» will take agriculture to a new level. At the same time, there are obstacles that have both market and non-market character on the way of technology «Internet of Things» usage in agriculture. Internet-based technologies can be used in a variety of ways, and one of these ways is the use of drones. Thanks to favorable natural and climatic conditions, Ukraine has good chance to become one of the largest suppliers of agricultural products in the world. However, this can only be achieved by applying the latest technologies in the process of agricultural production. At the same time, the development of new technologies is possible in the case of significant investments. The largest opportunities for the introduction of the latest technologies into the production process have large corporate groups. Agro holdings are the main investors and customers of innovative products; they are aware of the benefits of this type of investment and are the main recipients of the benefits of their implementation. The accumulation of substantial profits makes it possible to invest them in agritech startups, to create unique products themselves, to fund similar projects on a joint basis with other partners. Using of the possibilities of the Internet of Things will create all opportunities for transforming Ukraine into one of the world's largest food producers in the world.
