THE INVESTIGATION OF THE FRICTION AND WEAR OF ANTIWEAR COATINGS IN A VACUUM

Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2009, Vol 225, Issue 3

Abstract

Tribological characteristics of coatings were investigated using a ball-on-disc tribosystem without lubrication in the presence of air and in a vacuum. The tests were performed employing friction pairs consisting of 100Cr6 bearing steel balls and a disc (uncoated or CrN and MoS2 coated). The evaluation of tribological properties of the investigated ball-on-disc tribosystem have been done on the basis of friction coefficient, linear wear intensity, wear scar diameters on balls, and microscopy observation of the worn surfaces. The results indicate that the vacuum significantly influences the friction and wear behaviour of investigated friction pairs.
