The lichen Nephroma parile in the Bieszczady National Park
Journal Title: Roczniki Bieszczadzkie - Year 2012, Vol 20, Issue 1
Abstract
The papaer presents the occurrence of Nephroma parile in the Bieszczady National Park. It was recorded in 19 squares of the area of 1 km2, at 27 localities. It was observed mainly on beeches (71%), less often on sycamores (22%) and alders (7%). It usually develops on mosses growing at bases of tree trunks and parts of roots sticking out from the ground. The accompanying species include: Colemma flaccidum, Hypotrachyna revoluta, Menegazzia terebrata, Normandina pulchella, Pachyphiale fagicola, Peltigera horizontalis. The localities of Nephroma parile are mainly situated in wet stream valleys below 900 m a.s.l. (over 60% of localities). Above this elevation the number of localities decreases rapidly to grow again below the upper tree line (about 15% of localities). Within the area of the Park Nephroma parile seems to be in good condition. The thalli occurring there rarely have signs of degeneration and at many localities the species has been observed for over 10 years. A particularly abundant locality was discovered north-east of Wołosate [GG7001], where it grows on more than 20 trees and the number of thalli is estimated at several hundred. In Poland Nephroma parile belongs to Critically Endangered (CR) species (Cieśliński et al. 2006) and so numerous occurrence of this lichen in the area of the Park emphasizes remarkable natural values of the place.
