THE PROBLEM OF SEX IN MODERN PSYCHOLOGY

Abstract
Modern psychology has been reviewing the problem of gender in several aspects. The theories of social construction of reality and gender systems review gender as a factor of public socialization, allowing pre- serving and developing cultural values. Studies of determinants of gender differences can be divided into two areas: research, which explores biologically defined reproductive role from the perspective of the fundamental concepts of psychophysiology and biology, and research showing that biological differences create opportuni- ties for further differentiation between men and women in society, but not determine its presence and direction. The article also considers the gender structure proposed by N.J. Smelzer. It presents conclusions about the importance of the psychological component of the social content of biological gender.
