THE PROFESSIONAL TRAINING OF FOREIGN PHILOLOGY MASTER’S DEGREE STUDENTS TO THE FORMATION OF LINGUASOCIOCULTURAL COMPETENCE

Abstract

The publication identifies the basic knowledge, skills and abilities that the future master of foreign philology or master’s degree student must acquire while passing the course of professional training so that to teach linguistic and sociocultural competence to students who study foreign language philology in pedagogical university. The definition of the concept of linguistic and sociocultural competence in the context of professional training of the master’s degree student of foreign philology is given. Teaching a specialized training course and working out the issues of linguistic and sociocultural content all of that raised the level of competence of future masters of experimental groups up to 10% compared with control groups. The goals set in the work aimed at giving future masters historical, political, economic and sociocultural knowledge about the country, the language of which is being studied. Considerable attention was paid to the development of the future master’s skills to select the studying material of linguistic and sociocultural content; the ability to organize an integrated learning of linguistic and sociocultural studying material and to take and use extra linguistic means. A lot of attention is paid to the future master’s ability to organize independent work of students on the tasks with linguistic and sociocultural content and to conduct a comparative analysis of historical, political, socio-economic and cultural achievements of Ukraine and Great Britain. The ability of the future masters to put the students before the problem-solving tasks with linguistic and sociocultural orientation (for example, about the peculiarities of platforms of political parties, lifestyle in the UK, behavior advice in a foreign language culture, and other projects) was formed. As a result of the research, the task was realized, aimed at raising the level of linguistic and socio-cultural competence among students of foreign philologists. The basic knowledge, skills and abilities that master’s degree students should acquire while passing the professional training. So, we can make the following conclusions: the notion of linguistic and sociocultural competence of the future mas- ter’s degree students at pedagogical university; established the basic knowledge, skills and abilities that these students have to acquire. Implementing a specialized training course and working out linguistic and socio-cultural issues as the result raised the level of readiness of experimental student groups.
