Journal Title: Journal of Health Management and Informatics - Year 2019, Vol 6, Issue 1

Abstract

Introduction: This study was designed to investigate the relationship of the environmental architecture and job satisfaction with productivity in the staff of Azad universities. Methods: In this cross-sectional descriptive-analytic study, out of a total of 400 employees of the colleges of the Islamic Azad University of Shiraz, 186 subjects were included as a sample group by using MORGAN’s table for sample size. Data were collected using demographic information checklist, staff physical administrative environment questionnaire, Minnesota Job Satisfaction Questionnaire, and Hersey-Goldsmith’s Productivity Questionnaire. To describe the variables, we used descriptive statistics including mean indexes, and standard deviations. The data were analyzed using SPSS version22. Pearson Correlation Coefficient was used to measure the relationship between quantitative variables and productivity score. The level of significance was p<0.05. Results: The results indicated that the participants were middle aged (41.45±6.8), and had an average work time of 8 hours each working day and a work record of 11 years. Also, most of them were male and married, and more than 60% of them had a bachelor’s or master’s degree. Overall, the quality of environmental architecture index (mean±standard deviation of 58.04±10.20) had a direct significant correlation with the total productivity score (P=0.001 r=0.63). The environmental architecture index with job satisfaction showed a significant direct relationship (r=0.57 P=0.02). Conclusion: The environmental architecture index with the dimensions of ability, perception, support, and feedback from the dimensions of productivity was related only to the internal dimension of job satisfaction. Regarding the relationship of physical conditions with job satisfaction and productivity, it is suggested that the organizations should increase the quality of physical environment in order to improve the productivity of the employee.
