Journal Title: Journal of Science and today’s world - Year 2016, Vol 5, Issue 2

Abstract

Sustainable development is now widely employed to create a world in which human beings can live together properly. On the other hand, “neighborhood” is one of places were human beings are brought up and their needs are accommodated. It is claimed that sustainable development should be considered in different levels of human life, including neighborhood. This article aims to study the role of sustainable social development in life styles in neighborhoods and its influence by culture. To this end, Zartoshtian neighborhood in Kerman, Iran was selected as the sample. In order to evaluate sustainability in this neighborhood, sustainability criteria were collected including identity and culture, vitality, access, dynamism and adaptability, peace and comfort, and security. SPSS is utilized to classify these factors and study in the perspective of culture using correlation method. Since sustainable human living environment will not be ideal without their participation, a questionnaire was designed to collect the ideas of residents concerning sustainability utility of their neighborhood. The results show that principles and sustainability criteria are observable in the neighborhood but the residents introduced “security” less satisfactory than others. Finally, we studied the effect of culture on increased security.
