The role of Ethiopia in the Horn of Africa: a regional power capable of imposing peace?

Abstract

The Horn of Africa is now one of the most unstable zones of the International System, not only because of droughts and of serious socio-economic problems, but also due to a high number of conflicts. These conflicts, however, cannot be seen as isolated occurrences. They are the result of processes that have occurred across the continent, as well as responses to regional dynamics and contexts of each individual State. With the intervention of foreign powers on the continent increasingly discredited, the action of major countries in each region becomes essential to guarantee and/or enhance stability. It is in this sense that we comprehend the presence of Ethiopia in the Horn of Africa
