THE ROLE OF SELF-CONSTRUALS AS THE PREDICTORS OF PSYCHOLOGICAL RESILIENCE OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the role of self-construals as the predictors of resilience levels of high school students. Another purpose of this study is to investigate whether high school students’ self-construals and resilience, vary according to gender. Design of the study is relational screening model. The population of the research consists of 376 female and 386 male high school students, who attend the schools in the city center of Diyarbakir in 2012-2013 academic years. In order to collect data, “Resilience and Youth Development Module” and "Autonomous-related Self-in Family Scales", are applied. In order to analyze the collected data, t-test and multiple regression techniques were used. Results of the analysis revealed that high school students’ self-construals significantly predicts their psychological resilience levels (r= 0,39, r2 = 0,15, p<.01). This study also provides the profound findings between different gender for high school students’ resilience and self-construals.
