Abstract
The article presents the role of the smali and medium enterprises sector in the economy of Poland and other European Union countries. This sec¬tor performs a number of social and economic functions and plays a vital role in the economy of all European Union countries. There are differences between particular features of the Polish and EU SME sector, but generally the role of these enterprises is similar in all EU economies.
