The Semantics of Personification in the Religious Texts (Cognitive Approach)
Journal Title: آموزش زبان، ادبیات و زبان شناسی - Year 2019, Vol 2, Issue 1
Abstract
As a literary form, personification has long been considered by rhetoricians and they have approached this style as a literary and linguistic form in their studies. On the other hand, cognitive linguists have dealt with a different approach to this subject and have not analyzed it as a literary form but as a mental and conceptual process. This paper seeks to examine personification in the Holy Qur'an using the cognitive linguistic approach and descriptive-analytic method in order to ascertain its role in the conceptualization of the Quran. The results of the research show that abstract concepts such as truth, falsehood and death and the sensible references such as the earth and the sky have been explained and conceptualized through personification.
