The Study of carotid artery atherosclerosis Prevalence on Panoramic Radiography and Its Related Factors for smokers Admitted in Private Clinic

Abstract

The survey is descriptive and the society under study were smokers between the ages of 50 – 80 admitted to private clinic for panoramic radiography. The sampling method is purposive performed on 85 patients. Further, the selected variables were qualitative and quantitative and chi-square test (chi-square) and Fisher's exact test were considered for statistical analysis. In this survey, it was found that carotid artery atherosclerosis prevalence was 38.8 percent which meant that the inflicted were not at higher risk in terms of gender, diabetes, high cholesterol and high triglycerides yet faced 3.5 times more the amount with higher blood pressure in comparison with non-afflicted (OR-3.5) also obesity was statistically shown significantly in correlation with atherosclerosis (OR-2.2). In addition, atherosclerosis inflicted were 3.9 times more in exposure in comparison with non-afflicted since these smoked more than 20 cigarettes per day; those who had smoked more than 27 years were 4.3 times more in exposure as compared to non-afflicted. The obtained results indicated that smokers were at higher risk of carotid artery atherosclerosis prevalence based on panoramic radiography. The dentists were to accurately study smoker patients radiography, identify them and refer these to specialists so that in case necessary take therapy measures.
