The use of glass and aramid fibres for the strengthening of timber structures

Abstract

The use of glass and aramid fibres for the strengthening of timber structures. The paper presents exemplary options and effectiveness of timber structure strengthening with GFRP and AFRP.The results of selected investigations and the authors’ observations are reported. The research programme included the determination of bending resistance of glulam beams, un-strengthened and strengthened with glass fibres and aramid fibres tapes, carbon fibres and aramid fibressheets and glass fibres rods. Conclusions resulting from the comparison of resistance and deflection magnitude for different beam strengthening options in the technical scale were presented.
