The Work of the Archaeological Expedition at Selitrennoe Residential Settlement in the Twenty-First Century

Abstract
The paper provides information on the field research conducted by the archaeological expedition of the Mari State University and the Institute of archaeology of the Republic of Tatarstan on the largest in the Russian Federation archaeological monument - a Residential settlement of Selitrennoe. The residential settlement is the remains of the city of Saray (Saray al-Jedid, Saray al-Mahrusa) - the capital of the state Golden Horde (Ulus Dzhuchi). The paper provides information on each year of research with a description of all the work and excavated objects. A brief history of the archaeological study of the monument with the involvement of the archive of the Institute of archaeology of RAS is given. It is noted the special role of the Volga Archaeological Expedition of the Mari State University in salvation and the scientific study of the archaeological monument of Federal significance, which has become a full-fledged successor of Volga Archaeological Expedition of Institute of Archaeology of Academy of Sciences of the USSR/Russian Academy of Sciences.
