Journal Title: Más Vita - Year 2023, Vol 5, Issue 4
Abstract
Introduction: Chagas disease was discovered more than 100 years ago by the Brazilian Carlos Chagas, which continues to be one of the biggest Public Health problems with respect to vector-borne diseases in Latin America. Objective:Describe Chagas disease. Materials and methods:The research was carried out through bibliographic-documentary research through the search for primary and secondary sources such as: books, scientific articles, websites, current news, among others. Results:Currently, it occurs in several regions where it coexists with other pathologies of high incidence in tropical sectors, which is why it frequently goes unnoticed as a priority problem of local interest. This disease, also called American Trypanosomiasis, is a zoonosis caused by the parasiticprotozoan Trypanosoma cruzi, which infects humans through the bite of insects known as bedbugs, kissing bugs, vinchucas barbeiros, pitos, etc., the same as It develops in two phases: acute and chronic. Conclusion:approximately 30% of chronic cases develop serious complications, such as cardiovascular system problems, digestive system problems and damage to the nervous system. Early diagnosis and timely treatment are essential to prevent fatal complications. Finally, the public health surveillance, prevention and control measures established against this vector have been concentrated in places with active outbreaks
