Three Major Soybean Diseases: Targeted Biological Control

Abstract
Soybean cyst nematode (Heterodera glycines Ichinohe), Phytophthora root rot (caused by the fungus Phytophthora sojae), and Sclerotinia stem rot (caused by the fungus Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (Lid.) de Bary) all have a negative impact on soybean growth and yield, leading to substantial financial losses. Because of its sustainability and low environmental impact, biocontrol is a viable option for eradicating soybean diseases. There have been few reports of biocontrol strategies for these three soybean diseases. This examination began with a presentation of the biological properties of the three pathogens and the prevalence characteristics of the three illnesses that affect soybeans. Biocontrol agents, such as fungi and bacteria, were then highlighted for their ability to control the three illnesses and for the processes by which they exert this control. Under either greenhouse or field conditions, Bacillus and Streptomyces were proven to be effective against all three pathogens affecting soybeans. The paper concludes with recommendations for further study on the biocontrol of soybean diseases, including the screening of novel biocontrol species and the detailed study of biocontrol molecular processes.
