Journal Title: Journal of Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences - Year 2019, Vol 5, Issue 1

Abstract

Introduction: Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) is a tertiary care referral hospital with 32 super specialties departments in northern India. Regional cancer Center (RCC), SGPGI, Lucknow caters to the footfall from the entire state of Uttar Pradesh and neighboring regions and started a hospital based cancer registry program (HBCRP) in 2016. RCC at SGPGIMS treats cancer patients reporting from internal referrals as well as from oncologists/practitioners from outside state of Uttar Pradesh and neighboring regions. Our annual footfall is 2000 histo-pathological proven registered cases in the department of Radiotherapy. Thus a pre run to HBCRP, department patient database was studied for the year 2009 and 2014 calendar year to assess the drainage and referral pattern spaced 5 year apart. Objectives To study the locoregional variation in the drainage pattern and referral practice in different tumor sites between 2009 and 2014 calendar years as a pre run before starting the hospital based cancer registry program . Material and methods: Methods of data collection: From hospital cancer registry records, data was retrieved. The demography of all patients registered in the department of Radiotherapy, RCC, SGPGI over a span of 5 year in calendar year 2009 and 2014 was analysed. Considering the large geographical and population, the state of Uttar Pradesh was divided into 4 different geographical regions along with neighboring regions for logistic convenience in analysis. Pattern of patients arriving at RCC, SGPGI from all these regions was studied separately
