Abstract
Seventeen control points were working at the entrances to the foot trails of the Bieszczady National Park in years 2009–2011 (Fig. 1). In 2011 there were working 6 automatic monitoring points of the tourist traffic and 4 automatic monitoring points of the car traffic dynamics at the entrances to the park (Fig. 2). The total number of visitors entering the footpaths was measured at 349 600 visitors in 2009, 292 200 in 2010 and 330 600 in 2011 (Fig. 3). Wyżna Pass and Wołosate control points recorded the higher number of visitors in the tourist season (Fig. 4). The highest number of visitors was noticed in August – 31–32% (Fig. 5) and passed the number of 100 000 visitors (Fig. 6). Maximal values of daily attendance on the trails in years 2009–2011 were recorded in August and May (Tab. 1). The highest number of the national parks’ visitors starts their trip between 9.00 and 11.00 a.m. (Fig.7). Fig. 8 presents the tourist attendance in the main mountain group of Tanica and Halicz. Fig. 9 shows the total number of the different size groups in the BNP in the particular tourist seasons. The spatial distribution of tourist traffic shows that the higher number of visitors is noticed in the mountain ridge of Połonina Wetlińska (Fig. 10). Fig. 12 presents he number of participants of „The way of the cross” to the top of Tarnica Mt. in years 2010–2011. Over 4500 pilgrims were noticed in 2011, the most in the history. Over 15 000 visitors used to come to the BNP in the first weekend of May every year. Over 26 000 visitors is noticed on the highest top of Tarnica in August (Fig. 13). The first results of the tourist traffic were received in 2011 from the Polish/Slovak border ridge (Fig. 14). The total number of the cars within the BNP’s boundaries reached 223 000 (Fig. 15). Over 48% of the cars entered the BNP from the western direction (Wetlina). Fig 15–17 show some detailed results of the car traffic monitoring. Bieszczady National Park comparing to other national parks in Poland has quite good system of the tourist traffic monitoring. The system appropriately support the BNP’s administration in the current management of the park. Three new points of measurement are going to be install in the field in 2012.
