Track Allocation Scheme for Ningbo City Railway Xiangshan Line Based on Express/Local Train Operation Mode

Journal Title: Urban Mass Transit - Year 2025, Vol 28, Issue 3

Abstract

[Objective] To support the important radial line development of the southern wing in Ningbo′s spatial framework featuring ′one core, one auxiliary and multiple centers′, the track allocation scheme for the Ningbo City Railway Xiangshan Line under express/local train operation mode is examined. [Method] Based on passenger flow forecast results, the characteristics of cross-sectional passenger flow and cluster flow along the entire line are analyzed, calculating the proportion of long-distance commuting passenger volume within the total passenger flow. On this basis, the necessity of operating limited-stop express trains is determined. Considering operational intervals, train frequencies, and the runtime differences between express and local trains, the number and locations of overtaking stations are scientifically calculated. Interchange convenience is also considered to improve service levels for passengers. Additionally, the comprehensive track allocation plan for the entire line is developed by accounting for network planning, turn-back functionality, future extension needs, and engineering reserve conditions. [Result & Conclusion] In accordance with the functional positioning and planning standards of the Xiangshan Line, the minimum operational interval is set at 2.5 minutes. Traction calculation results and station dwell times determine that overtaking stations and lines should be established at Tangxi Station and Daxu Station. Damuwan Station, as the initial terminal station, will feature a crossover after the station to facilitate the turn-back operations and reserve conditions for future extension. Hengxi Station, planned as the junction station with Ningbo Rail Transit Line 12 and the depot access station, will include crossovers both before and after the station to accommodate connections, turn-back, and train storage needs. The Southern New City Station will serve as the depot access station, with outbound and inbound depot tracks and a crossover after the station to ensure turn-back and storage functionality. Yunlong Railway Station will add a single crossover before the station to enhance operational flexibility, while Xianxiang Station will feature a faulty vehicle parking track and single crossover before the station to meet the requirements for parking faulty trains.
