TRAFFIC RELATED NOISE POLLUTION IN ISPARTA CITY

Abstract
In time, along with increase in population and urbanisation, noise pollution has become a significant problem for human health particularly at metropolitan cities. Noise pollution problem has been examined in many countries, regions and provinces, studies have been made to determine noise sources and various recommendations have been provided to prevent it. Object of this study is to determine sources of traffic related noise pollution in Isparta city, carry out environmental noise measurements, create noise maps and analyse, interpret and evaluate them. With this purpose, noise measurements were carried out at different 117 places with sound level meter during daytime in evenings and at nights between the dates of August 2014 – December 2014. At the end of the study it was concluded that noise level at downtown was higher when compared to the noise level experienced outskirts of the city and it was observed that the noise level at outskirts did not exceed the limit values. The noise level differs in accordance with weather conditions, speed of vehicles and road conditions.
