Trans and postoperative cardiovascular complications

Journal Title: Revista Eugenio Espejo - Year 2022, Vol 16, Issue 2

Abstract

Introduction: the geriatric population is increasing worldwide. e body loses response capacity due to physiological changes at this age, which increases the risks of surgical intervention in these patients. Objective: to describe trans and postoperative cardiovascular complications in geriatric patients operated on at the General Hospital of Riobamba, during the period 2018-2019. Methodology: non-experimental descriptive cross-sectional research with a quantitative approach. e population consisted of all 257 medical records of older adults who underwent surgery, obtaining a sample of 207 patients through a simple random procedure. Results: predominance of patients aged between 65 and 70(57%), males (52.67%) and those with comorbidities (81.64%). 54.11% underwent emergency surgery, 72.95% had a surgical time greater than two hours and 93.24% required general anesthesia. Conclusions: cardiovascular complications and those ones that occurred during the trans operative period were more frequent. Older patients with comorbidities had a higher incidence of developing cardiovascular complications associated with surgical procedures
