Treatment of the patient with unilateral complete cleft palate – case report
Journal Title: Forum Ortodontyczne - Year 2011, Vol 7, Issue 2
Abstract
Cleft palate is the most common congenital defect of the facial part of the craniofacial. It is more frequent in men than in women with the left side more often affected (1). The defect involves both soft and hard tissues. In serious cases, it impairs breathing, eating, speech and hearing. They have a severe impact on facial aesthetics. This multiorgan lesion requires comprehensive and longterm rehabilitation. Orthodontic treatment is, apart from surgical intervention, a basic element of the therapy and determines its final result. The aim of this work was to present the orthodontic part of comprehensive interdisciplinary treatment in a patient with one side complete cleft palate. The treatment was conducted according to Eurocleft recommendations. (Orthod. Forum 2011; 7: 93 - 99). Received: 16.05.2011 Accepted: 20.06.2011
