TRIBOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF THE SELECTED STRUCTURAL STEELS
Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2010, Vol 232, Issue 4
Abstract
Tribological properties of structural steels are essential for their plastic working. They influence the wearing of metallurgical rolls applied for forming cold-rolled and hot-rolled products, among may others. However, the world scientific literature is very limited for such characteristics. This situation results from difficulties in performing the simulations under industrial conditions. Therefore, the appropriate simulations should be done under laboratory conditions. Supplementing knowledge concerning the influence of the microstructure of structural steel on their tribological properties will allow the proper selection of materials in highly loaded friction pairs. Performing the material characteristics of the selected structural steels in respect to their tribological properties was the aim of the presented paper. The tribological tests were carried out for four structural steels: S355J0, S235JR, LRAH36 (produced in a form of flat bars) and 18CrNiMo7-6 (produced in a form of a quenched and tempered forging). The tribological characteristics of these steels were investigated with regard to their wear when in contact with bearing steel (100Cr6). Tribological tests were carried out on the T-05 device. The tribological system was in the form of a ring (counter sample) rubbing the sample surface. The applied load was 100 N, the tests were performed for 2000 seconds at room temperature. The performed investigations enabled us to determine the role of the ferrite banding in the wearing mechanism of structural steels, especially in their adhesive wear and the influence of the microstructure on the friction coefficient.
