VARIAÇÃO LINGUÍSTICA E O ENSINO DE LÍNGUA MATERNA: UMA ANÁLISE DE LIVROS DIDÁTICOS NA EDUCAÇÃO DE JOVENS E ADULTOS-EJA

Abstract

Language is a social phenomenon, since it is built and gains meaning through a process of interaction with others. It is present in all human activities, assuming a multiform character. Linguistic variation is a result of various possibilities of verbal expression that language system makes available to its speakers. We find that this issue is rarely addressed in relation to the mother tongue teaching - if addressed, is not satisfactorily. We note that schools shortly discuss this question, always emphasizing grammatical rules. However, we believe that they also have to contemplate the linguistic variation.. Schools should emphasize this subject to demystify the belief that there is a single correct language, especially for students of adult education, who present distinct characteristics, students. In order to examine the discussion of variation in EJA classes through teacher support material, we analyze a collection of textbooks in this paper. We aim to provide support to Portuguese teaching / learning as well as to promote a reflection about the subject to emphasize that the role of the school is not the replacement
