Variants of the cephalic arch: report of 2 cases
Journal Title: International Journal of Anatomical Variations - Year 2017, Vol 10, Issue 3
Abstract
The cephalic arch is a unique anatomic structure. Multiple variants of its usual morphology and termination have been described in the literature. We present 2 cadaveric cases of variants of the cephalic arch; firstly, a morphologic variant, where the cephalic arch divided in two and joined the axillary vein, and secondly, a cephalic arch that drained directly into the external jugular vein. The variants of the cephalic arch are associated with arterio-venous fistulas malfunction, thus the proper anatomic knowledge is essential for both diagnosis and treatment of this condition.

Anatomic variation and introperative disposal of right hepatic artery in pancreaticoduodenectomy
Anatomic variation of right hepatic artery (RHA) is not rare in clinical. we retrospective reviewed the clinical data of 179 patients underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) between January 2012 and June 2017 in Departmen...
A case of bilateral persistent median artery associated with a rightsided duplicate palmaris longus muscle
We present a rare case of the simultaneous presence of bilateral persistent median artery and right-sided duplicate palmaris longus identified in a 72-year-old Caucasian male cadaver during routine anatomical dissection...
Incidence of wormian bones in the dried skull of Nigerian males
Sutural (Wormian) bones are small bones that appear between or close to the cranial sutures. Various authors expressed their opinions about formation of these bones but most of them believe they are formed due to additio...
Bilateral pectoralis major and pectoralis quartus variants: A conjoined tendon passing through the inter tubercular groove
The pectoralis major has been described to insert on to the lateral lip of the intertubercular groove of the humerus. The pectoralis quartus is a variant that runs parallel to the lateral border of the pectoralis major....
Unilateral orbitozygomatic muscle in a Brazilian cadaver
The persistence of the orbitozygomatic muscle in a Brazilian cadaver breaks two paradigms of international importance in anatomy; first, by being the only study to be performed on a Brazilian cadaver with this variation...
