VARIOUS MECHANISMS OF CORROSIVE AND MECHANICAL WEAR OF STAINLESS STEEL IN SLIDING PAIRS
Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2010, Vol 233, Issue 5
Abstract
The paper presents the results of tests on corrosive and mechanical wear of different kinds of stainless steel (AISI 430, AISI 420, AISI 321 and AISI 304) in solution of 0.5M H2SO4 and in a solution of 3.5% NaCl. The experiments were carried out on a technical stand with a model pair type pin-on-disc. The stand was designed and implemented in the Institute of Machines and Motor Vehicles of Poznań University of Technology. The paper presents partial test results. The selected results enable one to identify the elementary mechanism of corrosive and mechanical wear. In this article, the core issue is crack propagation. The example of delamination in case of friction in a sliding pair for steel AISI 304 in a solution of 3.5% NaCl at a pressure 0.36 MPa and mean sliding speed of 60 mm/s is shown.

EFFECT OF THE SINTERING TEMPERATURE ON TRIBOLOGICAL WEAR OF 316L AND 316L-HAp OBTAINED WITH THE USE OF SPARK PLASMA SINTERING
The use of 316L stainless steel in osteoarticular system implants is associated with many operational problems. One of the methods that deal with these restrictions may be the development of new materials, including comp...
EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF A FOIL BEARING STRUCTURE WITH A POLYMER COATING UNDER DYNAMIC LOADS
This paper presents the results of research on the structural elements of a prototypical foil bearing in terms of its dynamic loads. In the framework of dynamic tests, several dozens of measurement series were carried ou...
EXPERIMENTAL AND THEORETICAL WEAR ANALYSIS OF THIN CERAMIC COATINGS IN TRIBOLOGICAL CONTACT
The article presents the model used to predict wear of thin ceramic coatings working in tribological contact. The model is based on the Archard wear law and contact mechanics. The cooperation of elements in the ball/plan...
JOINT CARTILAGE LUBRICATION WITH PHOSPHOLIPID BILAYER
The surface of an articular cartilage human joint, coated with phospholipid bilayers or multi-layers, plays an important role in the surface-active phospholipid lubrication, friction, and wear during human limb movement....
