Vascular complications after cardiac invasive procedures – diagnosis and management

Abstract
Arterial puncture is related with the risk of bleeding and site complications. Therefore this procedure should be performed by physicians. Vascular complications present an important problem in contemporary invasive cardiology. Most of vascular complications are related to bleedings with their negative prognostic implications. The aim of this article is to discuss complications after cardiac invasive procedures (PCI, angiography, ablation). It contains description of diagnosis and treatment of pseudoaneurysms, hematomas, arteriovenous fistulas and retroperitoneal bleedings. The benefits of percutaneous treatment of pseudoaneurysms using ultrasound guided thrombin injection into cavity of pseudoaneurysms are also discussed in this article. The most dangerous complication, such a retroperitoneal bleeding, is described as well. Our paper is also focused on positive and negative aspects of radial access in cardiac percutaneous procedures.
