VERBALIZATION PECULIARITIES OF THE ADDRESSER-ADDRESSEE RELATIONS IN THE MEDIA DISCOURSE (ON THE BASIS OF THE BRITISH GLOSSY MAGAZINES FOR WOMEN)

Abstract

The article deals with the study of verbalization means of the addresser-addressee relations in the media discourse. Through analyzing scientists’ works it has been established that the discourse of glossy magazines relay devices for manipulating with reality and consciousness of addressees hence the pressing nature of the research of the addressor-addressee specificity. A gender-oriented type of a discourse, the discourse in question is characterized by such linguopragmatic features as institutionalism, suggestiveness, gender-variation, dynamic nature of unfolding. Addressee orientation as an all-permeating feature reveals itself in the dialogue character of texts in the glossy magazines for women, the former being monologues by their surface form. Latent dialogue performs a phatic function aimed at an addresser-addressee connection. It has been found out that the elements of the latent dialogue with readers are traceable on both the semantic and structural levels of the text system and are positioned randomly in text, thus enhancing the effect of one another and creating in text pragmatic highlights of appeal to readers. It has been noted that personal and possessive pronouns of the first person in plural form make for the implementation of the addressor’s illocutionary aim to unite the narrator with the readership and to make addressees feel the part of the issues tackled. Subjective modality means as language embodiment of evaluation are expressed explicitly and implicitly through interjections, modal words and particles. Being efficient tools of argumentation, exclamatory, interrogative, imperative syntactic constructions facilitate the spread of certain beliefs and values within the glossy magazines context. The research of the degree variation of the latent dialogue inherent in the discourse in question would be deemed appropriate, especially in terms of agent / non-agent slant.
