Videoscopic procedures in gastrointestinal and endocrine surgery

Journal Title: Wideochirurgia i Inne Techniki Małoinwazyjne - Year 2006, Vol 1, Issue 2

Abstract

Laparoscopy was first described by a surgeon from Dresden, George Kelling, but it was 10 years ago when it became a new accepted surgical approach. At the beginning of the nineties of the previous century, many surgeons welcomed laparosocopy as a miracle tool that was to give solutions to (almost) all surgical problems. Many innovative procedures were performed with laparoscopy in those days. Current opinion on the unlimited possibilities of laparoscopy is far more moderate than at the beginning of the previous decade. However, the success of laparoscopic cholecystectomy has led to the introduction to surgery of several videoscopic procedures. The goal of this article is to review currently performed videoscopic procedures. In part procedures of the following organs will be discussed: the gallbladder and bile ducts, pancreas, liver, diagnostic laparoscopy, antireflux procedures and procedures on the stomach, duodenum and intestines.
