VIEWS AND PREFERENCES OF DIFFERENT PROFESSIONALS ON GREEN FACADE APPLICATONS
Journal Title: PEYZAJ - Journal of Education, Science, Culture and Art - Year 2021, Vol 3, Issue 1
Abstract
Today, per capita urban green space is decreasing while cities are growing. The decrease in green spaces causes many problems such as increasing urban heat island effect and decreasing biological diversity. These developments negatively affect climatic comfort and human health. Vertical green spaces are becoming widespread in metropolitan cities due to the difficulties of creating more ho-rizontal green spaces. However, discussions on the benefits and sustainability of vertical greens are also rising. The aim of this study is to determine the opinions of various professionals about the green facade applications. In this context, it was aimed to determine their views on green facade applications, to get opinions about some sample studies, to evaluate the visual landscape prefe-rences, and thus to contribute to the studies to ensure sustainability in green facade applications by conducting an online questoinnaire survey. The data obtained from the surveys were subjected to statistical analysis and the results were presented in tables and graphs. In general, professionals think that urban habitat and biodiversity factors are not sufficiently considered when green facades are established and the plant species used in green facades are not selected with sufficient consi-deration to the local climatic factors. Professionals are undecided about the effects of green facade structures on buildings. The information obtained within the scope of the study shows that the green facade applications in Turkey have mainly aesthetic concerns and are insufficient in terms of economy, ecology and adaptability. It was concluded that the right material and system should be selected in order to create sustainable, aesthetic and economic green facade systems.
