Virtuality in the training of Peruvian nurses: A transversal study on stress levels

Abstract

The pandemic forced the university education of nurses to rely on the virtual modality, predisposing students and teachers to stress. This study aimed to determine the academic stress level in nursing students at the beginning (first group) and at the end (second group) of their university education during the health emergency. The methodology used was quantitative, descriptive, non-experimental, and cross-sectional design. The population consisted of 259 nursing students, to whom the survey techni-que was applied using the “SISCO SV AE Inventory in the context of the COVID-19 crisis”. The results indicated that, in the first group, 15.2 % presented a mild stress level, 32.9 % moderate, and 51.9 % high. In the second group, 100 % of the students experienced high stress. In conclusion, a significant increase in high-stress levels was observed. In conclusion, a substantial increase in academic stress levels was observed as university training progressed.
