Влияние восточнославянских языков на белорусский язык начала ХХ в
Journal Title: Studia Białorutenistyczne - Year 2018, Vol 12, Issue 12
Abstract
The article discusses the mutual influences of the Belarusian, Ukrainian and Russian language at the beginning of the 20th century. The quantitative and qualitative analysis of the Ukrainian and Russian elements, along with their derivational and semantic description in terms of their adaptation in Belarus, was based on samples of artistic, journalistic and popular scientific texts. The article uses descriptive, comparative, comparative-historical and statistical methods. The study allowed the determination of the nature and intensity of mutual interaction of related languages at the beginning of the 20th century, and of the influence of extralinguistic factors determining the position of the Belarusian language in the studied period in relation to other East Slavic languages. It was believed that the peculiarities of the interaction between Belarusian and Ukrainian, and between Belarusian and Russian were conditioned by the functional specificity of vehicular languages: while Belarusian and Ukrainian were on an equal footing in the period under study, the official Russian language played a dominant role over Belarusian. The analysis showed that the process of appearance of loanwords from Ukrainian and Russian in Belarusian did not have a systemic character, which is confirmed by the analysis of all language levels: phonetic, graphical, lexical, derivational and syntactic. Moreover, at the beginning of the 20th century, the influence of Ukrainian and Russian on Belarusian was not intense, as the Belarusian language of that period absorbed few elements of genetically close languages, which was probably due to the Belarusian linguistic and cultural revival, dominated by the desire to preserve national identity and to limit foreign linguistic influences.
