Abstract
The Middle East is by its geographic location and its political, economic and cultur - al importance ranked to the macro-regions crucial for the EU. Cooperation between countries of the southern and eastern Mediterranean (EUROMED, the Union for the Mediterranean), and other European and Middle Eastern countries (EU and GCC,) is proof of that. The individual unions agreed on several agreements of mu- tual economic, technological, environmental and cultural cooperation, guarantee - ing the continuation of these processes in future.
