Warsaw International Mechanism for Loss and Damage associated with the effects of climate changes
Journal Title: Polish Law Review - Year 2016, Vol 2, Issue 1
Abstract
The purpose of this article is to present the mechanism of financing activities related to the negative effects of climate phenomena, which was adopted during the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP 19), in Warsaw in November 2012. This subject is very topical due to the recent Climate Summit in Paris, at which was adopted the global climate agreement. The basic assumption of the Paris Agreement is to reduce the average temperature of the Earth by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Warsaw Mechanism of Loss and Damage is designed to help the most vulnerable to the negative effects of climate change countries, for example in connection with the rise in the sea level. The paper presents both the scope of the decisions underlying the establishment of the Warsaw Mechanism and the latest provisions of the Agreement signed in Paris. Were also discussed various options of preventive and adaptive actions to the inevitable changes that form the basis for the solutions adopted at the climate conference in Warsaw.
