WHAT PARENTS EXPECT FROM KINDERGARTEN FOR THEIR KIDS

Abstract
Parents are the main factor for positive changes to the pre-school education system, because their biological and spiritual mission is to provide children's best interests. We do not seem to doubt the understanding that kindergartens are for the children (at least because they stay there during the day), but we are not used to thinking that they belong to parents. But this is a fact, even only because parents are involved in the maintenance of kindergarten by paying local taxes and fees. Parents are also clients of kindergartens, because they have negotiated with them a special social service - the education of their children. Therefore, they should enjoy the rights of key users of the service: to be informed of its quality; to evaluate and control it; to initiate and negotiate positive changes to it and actively cooperate in their implementation. These and many other rights highlight parental leadership in the "family-kindergarten" interaction. They are not just one of the subjects that make up the educational community in the kindergarten, but are a primary factor for its development. The professionalism of the other participants in the educational community of the kindergarten: teachers, administrative staff; local community; service units that support the childcare facility (health and social services, NGOs, leisure centers, youth organizations, etc.) should help parents in their mission. Do parents, however, have the necessary civic-legal and pedagogical competence to participate as equal partners in the life of the kindergarten? Can they care for the best interests of their children and be responsible for their development (according to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, 1989), if what is happening in kindergarten is significantly different from their expectations? This publication seeks answers to these questions by presenting and analyzing some attitudes and expectations of parents from the municipality of Varna, related to children's staying in the kindergarten. They are identified in a study during the 2017/2018 academic year.
